Where do Zusatzraum come from?

In recent years, #Zusatzraum for digital and analogue learning have been created in cooperation between universities and companies.

#Zusatzraum is an Open Science project that began at Kiel University.

Conceptualisation: The idea for #Zusatzraum originated between Christiane Conradt and Julia Prieß-Buchheit at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel. Both have been working on models and theories of learning space design.

Development: In 2019-2022, Julia Prieß-Buchheit led an interdisciplinary teaching and learning project on learning space design at Coburg University of Applied Sciences. During this time, the project #Zusatzraum was created.

Transfer: After returning to the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in 2022, Julia Prieß-Buchheit and Christiane Conradt began the transfer with the help of Kiel-based construction company BundB and sustainability expert Michel Hadewig. #Zusatzraum are now being moved from science to practice.

Open Science project: In September 2023, the project decided to make #Zusatzraum one of the first Open Science projects with the support of the CAU Kiel Transfer Center.

Implementation: Today, all plans and the 3D model of the #Zusatzraum learning space are available. The website serves as seed capital for consultations and the inclusive construction of sustainable, energy-efficient learning spaces in Germany and beyond.
